Curriculum Policy

To ensure that the requirements of the Diploma Policy (DP), which is based on the educational objectives of this department, have been met, the following curriculum policy was established. 

(Systematic and Sequential Curriculum Organization)  

  • In the first year, students take general education courses common across the university. In the first and second years, they complete foundational courses for the department, including a second foreign language course, to build a solid basis for university-level learning.  
  • Intensive 汇丰彩票平台,汇丰娱乐 language foundational courses are offered in the first and second years. Practical courses are introduced from the second year, ensuring continuous improvement in 汇丰彩票平台,汇丰娱乐 proficiency from the first to the fourth year.  
  • Specialized courses, including both lecture-based and seminar-based formats, are systematically arranged in a stepwise manner from the first year.  
  • A graduation thesis in the fourth year is a mandatory requirement, serving as a comprehensive culmination of the students' learning.  

(Liberal Arts and Foreign Language Education) 

  • To support the achievement of the DP, students are encouraged to take a well-balanced selection of broad liberal arts courses in the first year, which help them acquire a wide-ranging perspective and multifaceted viewpoint.  
  • Foreign language courses other than 汇丰彩票平台,汇丰娱乐 are provided in the first and second years to foster interest in languages and cultures beyond 汇丰彩票平台,汇丰娱乐-speaking regions.  

(Specialized Education)  

  • The curriculum is divided into two specializations: "Literature & Culture" and "Language & Communication," allowing students to deepen their expertise through coursework in their chosen field.  
  • Seminar-style courses are systematically implemented over four years. These courses enhance specialization while fostering students' ability to think logically and conduct analytical research, culminating in the thesis writing project.  
  • Lecture courses start in the first year, and reading-based courses begin in the second year. Students are encouraged to take courses aligned with their interests. Students will deepen their knowledge, and further expand critical thinking, analytical skills, and expressive abilities through a series of seminar courses.  

(Career Education) 

  • To help students recognize the connection between their academic studies and career development, career education courses are mandatory starting from the first year.  
  • Courses that lead to career opportunities, such as 汇丰彩票平台,汇丰娱乐 interpretation and translation techniques, presentation skills, and children's 汇丰彩票平台,汇丰娱乐 programs, are offered from years one and two.

(Learning Methods and Evaluation)

To support students in meeting the requirements of the Diploma Policy (DP), classes will incorporate elements of active learning regardless of whether they are lecture or practical-style classes. These active learning classes provide a learning progression that effectively guides students toward their final-stage graduation research (thesis).

Department of Japanese Language and Literature
Curriculum Policy

To ensure that the requirements of the Diploma Policy (DP), which is based on the educational objectives of this department, have been met, the following curriculum policy was established.

  • In the first year, students take general education courses common across the university, foreign language courses, and the department’s foundational courses to build a solid basis for university-level learning.
  • From the second year onward, lecture-style and seminar-style specialized courses are systematically arranged in a stepwise manner.
  • A graduation thesis in the fourth year is a mandatory requirement, serving as a comprehensive culmination of the students' learning within the department.

(Liberal Arts and Foreign Language Education)

  • To support the achievement of the DP, students are encouraged to take a well-balanced selection of broad liberal arts courses in the first year to help them acquire a wide-ranging perspective and multifaceted viewpoint.
  • As part of enhancing intercultural understanding, foreign language courses are primarily offered in the first and second years. Students are able to choose flexibly according to their individual interests.

(Specialized Education)

  • Building upon the first-year lecture-style foundational courses, two specializations are offered from the second year onward: Japanese Language & Literature and Japanese Culture. Courses comprehensively cover different historical periods and fields within each specialization to deepen students’ expertise.
  • Seminar-style courses, offered in each academic year from the second year onward, form the core of departmental learning and serve to enhance students' proficiency in DP-related competencies from foundational to advanced levels.
  • Lecture-style courses from the second year onward complement core studies by enabling students to select courses aligned with their interests and growing knowledge.

(Career Education)

  • To help students recognize the connection between their academic studies and career development, mandatory career education courses begin in year one of the program.
  • To enhance the development of DP competencies, courses related to teacher training, obtaining qualifications, specialized research, and career literacy are introduced from the third year.

(Learning Methods and Evaluation)

  • To support the achievement of DP objectives, all courses, whether lecture-style or seminar-style, incorporate elements of active learning. Through active learning classes students are effectively guided toward the final stages of the program, which culminates with the completion of the graduation thesis.
  • Clear evaluation criteria have been established for the graduation thesis, and strict assessment is conducted to serve as a reliable indicator of the students' overall academic achievement.

Department of Arts and Sciences
Curriculum Policy

To ensure that the requirements of the Diploma Policy (DP), which is based on the educational objectives of this department, have been met, the following curriculum policy was established.

  • In the first year, students take general education courses common across the university, foreign language courses, foundational seminars, and introductory courses to build a solid basis for university-level learning.
  • From the second year onward, specialized courses (advanced seminars and special lecture courses) are systematically arranged in a stepwise manner.
  • A graduation thesis in the fourth year is a mandatory requirement, serving as a comprehensive culmination of the students' learning throughout the program.

(Liberal Arts and Foreign Language Education)

  • From the third year onward, students narrow their focus to a specific academic field and research themes in preparation for writing their graduation thesis.
  • In the fourth year, students complete their graduation thesis through the sustained analysis of materials and historical documents, continuously supported by discussions with faculty members.

(Career Education)

  • To help students recognize the connection between their academic studies and career development, mandatory career education courses begin from year one of the program.
  • Through seminars beginning in the first year, students acquire practical skills essential for professional life, such as conducting fieldwork, survey research, data collection, and the analysis and reporting of their findings.

(Learning Methods and Evaluation)

  • Regardless of whether a course is lecture- or seminar-based, interactive learning is emphasized in order to foster intellectual development, encourage engagement with specialized knowledge, and cultivate a diligent attitude toward academic research.
  • Graduation theses are subjected to a rigorous evaluation process, which includes oral examinations conducted by multiple faculty members. Outstanding theses are published in full in the Department of Arts and Science Graduation Thesis Abstract Collection.
